PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide
PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide is the UK charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people. Our suicide prevention helpline, HOPELINE247, is staffed by trained suicide prevention advisers, who work with young people (aged up to 35) – and anybody concerned for a young person – to help keep them safe from suicide. HOPELINE247 is a free and confidential call, text and email service, available 24/7 everyday of the year (including weekends and bank holidays).
We also offer British Sign Language and a translation service for callers who cannot, or prefer not to, speak English in over 240 different languages.
We deliver a range of suicide prevention training, which is available to individuals, organisations and communities who want to create a suicide-safer society. You can book onto all our available training here or search for fully funded training in your area here.

Who can use this service?
How are services delivered?
- For children and young people under the age of 35 who are experiencing thoughts of suicide
- For anyone concerned that a young person could be thinking about suicide, including parents, carers, family and friends
- For professionals needing to debrief following a disclosure from a young person (such as teaching staff, healthcare workers, mental health professionals or emergency services)
